Lauren Cook is a choreographer, teacher, dancer, and co-artistic director of Toronto’s Open Air Collective and Alias Dance Project (aliasdanceproject.com). She is a graduate of Ryerson University (2005) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. While at Ryerson, Lauren had the opportunity to perform in works by Julia Sasso, Kathleen Rea and Vicki St. Denis.
With IDAC, Lauren has had the privilege of performing in works by David Earle, Darryl Tracy, Heidi Strauss, Meagan O’Shea, Andrea Spaziani and Emmanuel Jouthe.
With Alias Dance Project Lauren has had the opportunity to perform for the 2009 Toronto International Fringe Festival including, I Hate Yellow (2009), a commission created by Dora nominated choreographer, Valerie Calam, The Boneyard (2010) created by the critically acclaimed Solid State Breakdance, from Montreal, QC, Insignia (2010), co-creadted by Alias members Geordan Coupland and Meghan Cafferky, Brain Pain (2010) created by Alias member Gita Harris. Upcoming projects for Alias include a commission co-created by Heidi Strauss and Apolonia Velasquez, which will premiere at Alias Dance Project's 2010 Danceworks Coworks Series Event, The First LP; and a commission co-created by contemporary artist Allen Kaeja and urban dance artist Troy Feldman.
Some of Lauren’s choreographic credits include Under the Mulberry Bush (2007), which was performed at the Montreal Fringe Festival at the M.A.I. Theatre, and The Hidden Truth (2009), which was performed for Series 8:08, Dance Matters and the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival, While You Were Sleeping (2010), which was performed at "The Bazaar" and the 20010 Toronto International Fringe Festival. Lauren is currently working on a new untitled work which was shown as a work in progress at Clash (2010) a performance event.
Lauren is the manager of Turning Pointe Academy of Dance and a certified Pilates instructor. |
