Sarah Yu is a Toronto based dance artist and a co-founder of Toronto's Alias Dance Project Inc. She is also a Ryerson University graduate, holding a BFA Honours in Theatre-Dance. While at Ryerson she had the privilege of working with established choreographers Julia Sasso and Jack Clark .
Since graduating Sarah has worked with Toronto choreographers Meagan O’Shea, Lauren Cook, Geordan Coupland, Meghan Cafferky and Alison Bryan. She has had the joy of participating in multiple dance festivals including fFIDA, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, WYSIWYG for the MILK International Children’s Festival for the Arts, and the Indie Unlimited Weekend 2006 at Harbourfront. In July of 2008 Sarah co-choreographed and performed in the music video production of “Shutterbuggin’” by Buck 65, directed by Juno award winner Christopher Mills. Sarah’s Alias Dance Project involvement includes A Night on the Fourth Floor for the St. Ambroise Fringe Montreal 2007, performing Alias Dance Project’s Decoded at series 8:08, Talent Defined 2008, The Hidden Truth at series 8:08, Dance Matters From the Fryin’ Pan, Alias Dance Project’s How To Make a Mix Tape for the Toronto Fringe Festival 2009, Coming Through in Waves for ABA Entertainment's the Bazaar, and Women in Dance 2009, and I Hate Yellow choreographed by Toronto's Valerie Calam. As part of Alias' The Domino Effect for the Toronto Fringe Festival 2010 Sarah had the exciting privilege of performing Gita Harris' Brain Pain, Lauren Cook's While You Where Sleeping, Meghan Cafferky and Geordan Coupland's Insignai, and Helen Simard and JoDee Allen of Solid State Breakdance's Bone Yard.
Most recently she has had the wonderful experience of working with Toronto's Heidi Strauss and Apolonia Velasquez for the creation of a new work which will premiere in April 2011 as part of Alias Dance Project's The First LP, a DanceWorks CoWorks series event. Sarah is extremely excited for all that 2011 and the future has in store for Alias Dance Project Inc. and it's artists. |
